South Africa Finds Its Place in Neurodiversity Pride Week

A few years ago, many neurodivergent families were having the same conversations in isolation.

Parents were searching for answers. Educators were trying to understand. Professionals were working hard to support children and adults, often without seeing the full picture. Most of us were finding our own way through a system that wasn't always connected.

This year feels different.

For the first time, South Africa has its own Neurodiversity Pride Week programme as part of the global celebration. Looking at the calendar, what stands out isn't just the number of events. It's where the conversations are happening.

Schools. Workplaces. Parent groups. Community organisations. Online spaces. Coffee mornings. Learner enrichment programmes.

Different people. Different perspectives. Different experiences.

But all part of the same conversation.

Neurodiversity Pride Week is a celebration of neurodivergent people and the many ways they think, learn, create, solve problems and experience the world. It is also a reminder that nobody should have to navigate these conversations alone.

Whether you're neurodivergent yourself, a parent, educator, therapist, employer or ally, there is something on this year's calendar for you.
