The trouble with doing well
Funny how a child can understand quadratic equations but can't remember where she left her jersey. At school, we tend to be reassured by the marks. The missing jersey is a separate disciplinary matter, apparently. I've spent a good part of my teaching career interested in the things good marks don't tell us, particularly when it comes to gifted and twice-exceptional children. And then there's the rather entertaining possibility that some of those girls grow into women who can run entire organisations but need three reminders, two calendars and a mild domestic emergency to renew a driver's licence. Add perimenopause, and even the most carefully constructed coping mechanisms may begin submitting their resignations. I've been exploring what happens when intelligence makes ADHD harder to recognise, and why some women only begin putting the pieces together decades later. https://www.neuroparentinghub.co.za/2026/10/09/the-trouble-with-doing-well-adhd-women/
