Trust, conversation, and the long way around
Almost four years ago, when I began reaching out to parents through my writing, one article found its way to someone who needed support for his own children. We started talking, quietly at first, about learning, about schools, about what happens when the system doesn’t quite fit the child in front of you. I could never have predicted where that conversation would lead. Today, the latest Estates in Africa Education Supplement is out, and I’m deeply grateful for the trust that grew from those early exchanges and for the opportunity to now shape this space as editor. It’s a responsibility I take seriously, because platforms like this matter. They allow room for voices that often sit just beyond the mainstream narrative of education. I’m particularly proud of the editorial section in this edition. It reflects many of the conversations I’ve been part of over the past few years, with parents and educators who are thinking carefully, questioning thoughtfully, and trying to do right by the children in their care, even when the path is not obvious.
